God, she’s so talented. In her new single 12, Rosie Cerquone speaks on loneliness and lost potential. Influenced by classic jazz singers, Cerquone's single mourns something that never was. Ringing notes compliment her voice in conjunction with a countering chorus. If this song is representative of what Cerquone can do, then an album should be at the top of your ‘new music wish list.’
Joyce from the Future, Joyce from the Future [EP]
Screw COVID, I just caught boogie fever. Joyce from the Future sings angelically over slap bass techno funk. Instrumentals vary throughout the EP from full bass to stripped guitar. Big band influences are sprinkled throughout the album: a Steve Miller cherry on top. Lyrics are personal and relatable to the listener talking about relationships insecurity and love. When you put them in conjunction with the smackin’ bass? Golden.
Maxy Dutcher & John Hayes, Borealis
Borealis looks at nature through the lens of man. In a striking set of instrumentals, Maxy Dutcher and John Hayes use a mix of piano, and percussion to paint a picture of modernization steadily ripping through Mother Nature. Techno beats juxtapose lyrical piano harmonies: reminiscent of civilization existing in the natural world.

The Moving Stills, Bad
This song sounds like summer! Strong snare and quick moving chorus carry the instrumentals of the tracks. Choppy guitar is interspersed throughout in subdivided beats. Lyrics speak about the contradictory hope and fear of jumping into a new relationship. The chaotically organized tracks support the lyrics, giving the listener an insight into the life of the artist.

An amazing addition to your fall playlists. St. Lorelei sings on one sided infatuation and distanced longing. In swooping vocals lead singer, Jo Morris, touches on the complexities of building a relationship with someone. The macabre love of the lyrics mix with 50s rock influences and the hum of Morris’ voice enchantingly, snaring the lister in.
Eels, Earth to Dora
This is a breakup album if I’ve ever heard one. Throughout the album, Eels gets progressively more sad. The beginning of the album references salvaging a codependent relationship in a happy go lucky tone: akin to Jack Johnson. As the album progresses, the lyrics switch to anger and mourning and the songs become more and more bitter until you hit empty acceptance in the last song. This album takes you from reliance in an unhealthy relationship, though the five stages of grief, and right into moving on.
