Home Studio Tips

From Maddie & Nora

What I use for audio recording is the Samsung Q2U USB and XLR microphone. It plugs right into my computer for easy recording, but also will allow me to plug it in to a mixing board in the future when I make that upgrade. My house is a little echo-y so I sit in my closet. The small space and clothing helps deaden the sound. I use adobe audition to record my audio, but any audio program would work.

If you cannot buy a microphone, you can also record on your phone. Iphone voice memos are very sensitive and pick up a lot of extra noise so ensure that your surroundings are quiet. Watch the waveform to make sure the peaks don't get clipped.

If you are wanting to record multiple people virtually, I have found that pulling the audio from zoom calls works fairly well. The software will save the audio as its own file and while the audio isn't perfect I have found the quality to be acceptable.
